Photography Tips + How to Choose the right Photographer for Brand Shoots
Over this past year, I’ve been able to level up my brand a lot with my photos and by working with some dope photographers! I have to start off by giving a special shout-out to Lajoy Cox (Lajoy Photography), who shoots the majority of my social media photos, and who also happens to be one of the best photographers in the game! Lajoy is the first person to actually mention a photoshoot to me ya’ll, before I even thought of doing one for social media. This was back when I was still shooting most of my content on my iPhone. I met Lajoy at a local event that a friend of mine was hosting almost 2 years ago, and me and Lajoy have been partnering together ever since!
Outside of partnering with some talented photographers, I’ve been working to perfect my own photography skills, which is so important to do since you may not always have access to a professional photographer. Keep reading for some tips when taking your own photos for the ‘gram or for your blog.
1. Take photos in shade, facing the lighting.
2. Use a light filter on your photos to keep your social pages cohesive (VSCO, or Lightroom offers great presets).
3. Utilize natural light as much as possible, but not when it’s too sunny out or too dark (when it’s overcast is the best time to take photos).
4. After you’ve taken your photos, AVOID over editing.
5. Utilize YouTube University!! Whether you are shooting with a DSLR or your phone, there are many tutorials out there teaching the best way to shoot high quality content on either device!
When you are looking to work with a photographer, it’s important to Know how to choose the best photographer for your brand style.
Below are a few tips of how to choose the best photographer to partner with for brand shoots.
1. Know your brand style! Does the photographer editing style match your brand? Photographers all have very different editing techniques, so choose one that will match with your brand.
2. Pay attention to photographer packages/rates. Many photographers now have branding shoots available and influencer packages created to help you with creating content on a monthly basis, at an affordable rate.
3. Find other bloggers/influencers in your city whose content and photos you really like, and see which photographers they’re working with. Feel free to reach out to them!
4. Search for local photographers using hashtags on Instagram; Example: #AtlPhotographer #georgiaphographer #georgiaphotography #atlantalifestylephotographer #atlantaphotography.
5. Don’t be afraid to try out a few different photographers. It may take time to find someone you really like, so be patient with the process.
As I mentioned earlier, I have the pleasure of partnering with one of the most TALENTED photographers out there, Lajoy Cox.
